About the Middle School Program
Our Middle School Program empowers students in grades 6–8 to build on the foundational skills developed in earlier SCORES programs while preparing them to take on new, more advanced challenges as emerging leaders within their schools and communities.
Students dive deeper into creative writing, soccer, and community engagement, using these tools to strengthen their communication, collaboration, and leadership. Through poetry and performance, they learn to express their perspectives and advocate for change. On the field, they refine teamwork, discipline, and strategy—skills that translate directly into real life.

What Students Learn
Our Middle School Program helps students build leadership, self-expression, and community awareness as they prepare for high school and beyond. Through poetry, soccer, and service, they strengthen their voices and confidence while making a positive impact in their communities.
Program Schedule
Our Middle School Program runs from late February to May. All soccer and writing activities take place after school, four days a week, with soccer games typically being held on Thursdays.

Spring Season
(Feb–May)
School-Based Program
Building on the creative writing and literacy skills developed through our Core Program, this is an 11-week after-school program that combines poetry and soccer to help students strengthen their communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
Our Poet-Athletes learn to use poetic techniques—including simile, metaphor, rhythm, and rhyme—while exploring different poetic forms such as free verse and haiku. Lessons emphasize the writing process, public speaking, and self-expression, preparing students to confidently share their voices in front of peers and community members.
The season concludes with performances at Middle School BLAST, a year-end poetry showcase and soccer tournament celebrating teamwork, creativity, and student growth.

Summer Extension
(Up to 10 Weeks)
Offered in partnership with community organizations, recreation centers, and schools, our summer program provides flexible opportunities for continued growth through literacy and soccer-based activities that keep students active and engaged.
Annual Events
Poet-Athletes within our Middle School Program bring energy and leadership to SCORES events throughout the year, taking part in activities that highlight their creativity, teamwork, and growth.
